Vickie

Vickie Baker grew up in a musical family, traveling and singing gospel with her father, the late Mr. L.B. Baker Sr. Vickie’s mother, Mrs. Lessie Baker, insisted that she take private music lessons. She participated in the North Caddo High School Band as baritone section leader and drum majorette. She continued to pursue a career in music, receiving a scholarship in music to Mississippi Valley State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education. She furthered her career at the University of Mississippi and received a Masters of Music Education degree. She is currently a Band and Choral Music director at Vicksburg Catholic School in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Vickie is a member of Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Band Sorority, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

In the late 80’s, Vickie organized and sang lead vocals for Champagne + II, and the Rhythm Warehouse. These groups opened for numerous blues artists such as: B.B. King, Al Green, Hal Melvin and the Blue Notes, and Bobby Blue Bland, just to name a few. In the early 90’s, Vickie began singing background vocals for Ernie Johnson and Willie Clayton. She thought this would be an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience before going on her own.

Vickie travels with an eight piece band which consists of rhythm section, horns and background singers. They have performed on several major festivals such as: The Delta Blues Festival, The Farrish Street Festival, The Good Time Roll Festival, and the B.B. King Homecoming Festival.

Vickie Baker is a an exciting artist with a raw soulful voice that reminds you of a young Denise LaSalle or Gladys Knight. She has thrilled audiences form New Orleans to Chicago and from Miami to Los Angeles, leaving them on the edge of their seats yearning for more. This beautiful country girl from Belcher, Louisiana, will quench your musical thirst with her meaningful lyrics and sexy sweet sound.

Hello Ms. Baker!!! Stumpled accross you on the web – god do you age at all?! I hope you are doing well. My sister Kappi told me she ran into you and we were to come see your show at riverfest but I had to leave town that day. Hopefully next time I’m in Vicksburg we can catch up.

P.S. Have not been practicing my flag or clarinet :)
